Description |
This presentation of the famous Dreyfus paintings of Ben Shahn consists of eight magnificent prints portraying the principal actors in the Dreyfus Affair. The stylized paintings were executed in 1930 upon Shahn's return from years in France and were recreated as pochoir prints in 1969 with the artist's approval. There are eight lithographs of Captain Dreyfus, Esterhazy, Georges Picquart, DuPaty de Clam, Labori, "The Experts," Labori and Picquart, and Paleologue and Demange, each with an appropriately lettered title and signed in the plate. Included is the long misplaced painting of Emile Zola, a part of the series but never reproduced. Published by Crossroads Books, Cincinnati, OH. Edition 222/450. |
